Paediatric Haematology Clinic

The Paediatric Haematology clinic boasts facilities that blend seamlessly into a child-friendly environment to put the little patients at ease instantly. We also offer a sedation facility for day care procedures such as bone marrow aspiration, biopsies, and lumbar puncture, among others. We have a ‘vein viewer’, which enables the peripheral veins to be easily found; thus, children need not be subjected to multiple pricks to draw blood. Further, play rooms are available for children so that they may unwind and catch up on fun activities. We also have an excellent physiotherapy department for paediatric patients, along with palliative care and dedicated pain management/social worker services. We offer treatments for paediatric patients with the following conditions:

  • All types of anaemias, including iron-deficiency-associated, nutritional, and other rare, difficult-to-treat anaemias.
  • All types of haemoglobinopathies, including transfusion- and non-transfusion-dependent thalassaemia and sickle cell disease.
  • All types of bleeding disorders, including haemophilia and Von Willebrand disease; a multidisciplinary approach is followed to prevent the chronic morbidities associated with such disorders.
  • All types of bone marrow failure syndromes, such as Fanconi’s and aplastic anaemia: the team also provides counselling for making suitable decisions regarding bone marrow transplantation for paediatric haematological malignancies.
  • Other disorders, such as autoimmune idiopathic thrombocytopenia, neutropaenias, etc.
The Tower

The infrastructure and facilities are specially designed to take care of immunocompromised patients. We have HEPA-filtered rooms to provide a sterile environment for bone marrow transplant and CarT therapy patients. We have both positive and negative pressure rooms on each floor. We have cutting-edge pathology lab facilities, including flow cytometry, molecular genetic mutation analysis, and coagulation/clotting tests.

We have one of the finest blood bank facilities in the country, where blood is leucocyte reduced at the source of collection and is subjected to nucleic acid testing to detect, and minimise the chance of, blood transfusion-related infections. We have an apheresis unit for peripheral blood stem cell collection. The day care facility is staffed with haemato-oncology nurses who are specially trained to handle the administration of chemotherapy drugs and blood products.
