Prior to your child's transplant, you and your family will receive a thorough explanation about the transplant unit, and if available, a video tour will be provided to help you understand the process.

Undergoing a bone marrow transplant can feel overwhelming, especially when it's time for your child to stay in the hospital for approximately 6 weeks, or sometimes longer. We understand that this duration might seem lengthy, and you likely have many questions about what to expect and how your child will feel.

Each family approaches the hospital experience differently.

When your child undergoes the transplant, you will be directed to a private room, which will serve as your child's special space, where family members are welcome. This is commonly referred to as 'isolation.'

Please note that only one caregiver (the designated caretaker) will be allowed to stay with your child during this time."

During your child's transplant journey, you may encounter the following team members who play vital roles in your child's care:

  • Transplant Doctors
  • Nurses
  • Dietician
  • Social Worker
  • Physiotherapists
  • Cleaners

Our operating theatres have state-of-the-art surgical and diagnostic equipment. We, moreover, have dedicated isolation rooms for our immunocompromised patients.

There are sedation facilities for day-care procedures, such as bone marrow aspiration, biopsy, and lumbar puncture, so that your child can remain at ease during the procedure and then recover in the comfort of their own home.

The department further provides After Completion Therapy for rehabilitation after surgery, including a Paediatric Rheumatology Unit. We furthermore maintain a playroom to keep your child entertained and mentally at ease during their treatment and/or hospital stay.
