Neuro Surgery

Overview

The Department of Neurosurgery at the Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre offers advanced neurosurgical management for a wide range of neurological disorders. We offer a multi-disciplinary treatment approach at par with global standards.

We provide compassionate, high-quality, patient and family centric care to patients with ailments of brain and spine, nervous system, and peripheral nerves. Our treatment is not limited to only diagnose and treat patients, but also focuses on rehabilitation and prevention.

Our team of highly trained neurosurgeons, neurologists, neurorehabilitation team and nurses work together to offer comprehensive treatment using most innovative and sophisticated neurosurgical techniques. We promote global teamwork through constant interaction and video conferences with specialists from internationally-recognised neurosciences institutions and doctors.

The Tower

At the Department of Neurosurgery, we offer specialized surgical options for a wide variety of neurological disorders. Our services include the following:

  • Trigeminal Neuralgia Management

    • We perform the following procedures to manage trigeminal neuralgia:
    • Radiofrequency ablation, also known as Radio Frequency Thermo Coagulation (RFTC), which targets the trigeminal nerve, altering the brain’s activity to transmit pain and signals, thereby reducing pain. We have performed RFTC in more than 100 patients and helped them lead a pain-free life.
    • Microvascular decompression (MVD) surgery to relieve abnormal compression of cranial nerve causing trigeminal neuralgia.
    • Radiosurgery: Non-invasive one-time high dose radiation to relive pain caused due to trigeminal nerve.
  • Brain Tumour Management

The following facilities are available at the department of neurosurgery to manage brain tumours:

    • Stereotactic biopsy for precise targeted sampling of tumours
    • Image-guided excision of tumour
    • Awake craniotomy and intraoperative neuromonitoring to reduce the risk of functional damage in eloquent area tumours
    • 5-Aminolaevulinic acid (ALA)-guided tumour excision
    • Transnasal endoscopic surgery for pituitary adenoma
    • Radiosurgery to target brain metastasis, and small or residual tumours.
  • Deep Brain Stimulation

Deep brain stimulation (DBS), an elective surgical procedure in which electrodes are implanted into certain areas of the brain, is now available at the department of neurosurgery. It uses electrical stimulation to treat a variety of neurological and psychiatric conditions including movement disorders, neuropsychiatric conditions, epilepsy, chronic pain, and other diseases.

  • Treatment for traumatic Brain Injury

At Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research centre, traumatic brain injury is managed at a faster pace with immediate transfer from emergency room to operating table within the golden hour. We have a dedicated CT scanner in emergency room that provides the diagnostic results within minutes after admission and helps in saving precious lives.
Neuro-intensive care protocolised therapies including decompressive craniectomy, intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring, multi-modal brain monitoring in the neuro critical care unit, and novel pharmacological therapies are in place to minimalise patient mortality and morbidity.

  • Treatment for stroke

Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research centre is a ‘Stroke Ready Hospital’. Our team of neurosurgeons perform various procedures ranging from mechanical thrombectomy to decompressive craniectomy depending on the indications in ischemic stroke and endovascular coiling to micro neurosurgical clipping in aneurysmal haemorrhages.

Intensive planning has gone into the development of the world-class infrastructure for the Neurosurgery division to provide quality care to our patients. Our state-of-the-art operation theatres and hybrid operating rooms are equipped to help the neurosurgeons perform intricate and specialised procedures. Some of these equipment include Carl Zeiss Pentero 900, Neuromicroscope for microneurosurgery, Strykers 3i Neuronavigation system for Image-guided surgery and Robotic arm for precision in interventional procedures. We also have the Elekta Stereotactic Frame for Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), functional neurosurgery and radiosurgery as well as Karl Storz Neuroendoscopy station for minimally invasive brain and spine surgery.

Our Trauma Centre team provides emergency care to head and spine injury patients on an immediate basis. Our blood bank and Emergency Services are operational 24/7.

We also have a well-equipped Rehabilitation Centre that offers comprehensive neurorehabilitation services.
