About Us

The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics is committed to delivering World-class healthcare through personalised medical nutrition therapy. Expert clinical dieticians provide specialised care for conditions like liver disease nutrition, paediatric nutrition, diabetes management diets and oncology nutrition. Tailored therapeutic diets and innovative approaches, including precision nutrition are designed to effectively address weight management, prenatal nutrition, and sports and fitness nutrition. Guided by Hippocrates’ wisdom: “If we could give every individual the right amount of nourishment and exercise, not too little and not too much, we would have found the safest way to health.”

The Tower

A highly skilled team of clinical dieticians, available from 8 am to 8 pm on Level 1, Heritage, specialises in managing diseases through tailored medical nutrition therapy. For in-patients, the department collaborates closely with the medical team to prepare and present therapeutic diets using optimal practices. Dietary plans are carefully crafted to address patient’s medical, psychological, and social needs while respecting their unique eating habits, cultural preferences, and religious beliefs, thus reflecting the hospital’s unwavering mission and values.  

The department is dedicated to offering comprehensive services tailored to diverse needs, including in-patients, out-patients, rehabilitation patients, outreach camps, and wellness programs catering to all age groups.

The department prioritises evidence-based practices to design effective therapies and implement the latest nutrition interventions, thereby ensuring the highest standards of professional care. Collaboration with the medical, nursing, pharmacy, diagnostic and foods service teams ensure that nutrition remains integral to patient care.

The team comprises highly skilled professionals, with a focus on continuous education and training to maintain excellence. All dieticians are actively affiliated with esteemed professional associations and scientific societies. The department adheres to the Nutrition Care Process (NCP), providing personalised nutritional assessment, intervention, and education to every patient.

The Tower

Tailored diet plans to support the following conditions:

  • Liver diseases: Fatty liver, liver cirrhosis, non-alcoholic fatty liver, and hepatitis.
  • Kidney diseases: Chronic and acute conditions, dialysis, and care during kidney transplants.
  • Gastrointestinal diseases: Ulcers, acid reflux, intestinal surgeries and support for liver and pancreatic cancer.
  • Oncology nutrition – Tailored diets for patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, particularly for liver cancer and other cancers.
  • Critical care: Specialised nutrition plans for patients in critical conditions, including post-transplant care in the liver transplant ICU.
  • Management pre- and post- organ transplantation: Support for Kidney, Liver, Heart and Lung and others
  • Cardiac diseases: High cholesterol, hypertension, and recovery from cardiac surgeries.
  • Neurological diseases: Stroke, epilepsy, and recovery support.
  • Diabetes management: We provide diet plans for type 1 and type 2 diabetes, pre-diabetes.
  • Endocrine and metabolic disorders: Thyroid conditions, PCOD, adrenal insufficiency
  • Paediatrics: Specialised nutrition for children with various health concerns.
  • Maternal nutrition: We provide specialised nutritional support during pregnancy and lactation
  • Food allergies/intolerances: We create specialised food plans to manage food allergies and intolerances.
  • Weight management: We provided tailored diet plans to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.
  • Bariatric surgery nutrition: We provide nutritional support before and after bariatric surgeries.
  • Precision Nutrition: We also provide personalised plans based on genetic profiling.
  • Sports & Fitness Nutrition: We provide tailored diet plans for athletes and fitness enthusiasts.

The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics features state-of-the-art facilities, including a dedicated consultation space and advanced tools for nutritional assessment and therapy, providing a welcoming and patient-centric environment to deliver personalised care.

The specialized dieticians provide services across various areas:

  • Specialized Clinical Dieticians- Clinical dieticians are experts in organ transplantation (including liver, kidney, heart & lung), paediatrics, diabetes management, critical care, oncology nutrition
  • Outpatient and wellness dieticians: Outpatient and wellness dieticians offer tailored plans for long-term health and disease prevention.
  • Rehabilitation dieticians: Rehabilitation dieticians support recovery through specialised diet plans.
  • Public healthcare dieticians: Supporting outreach programs and promote patient-centric healthcare. Specialized IPD dieticians: address the nutritional requirements of our hospitalised patients while addressing their various issues and clinical conditions.

  • Nutritional assessment is performed for all patients by the clinical qualified dieticians considering anthropometric, biochemical, clinical & dietary data.
  • Individualised therapeutic diets are developed to address specific clinical conditions, such as liver cirrhosis treatment, post-transplant care, and critical care nutrition.
  • Patients are offered a variety of food choices that align with their condition and care.
  • Effective counselling strategies is provided to patients and caregivers as part of a multidisciplinary approach, ensuring nutritional needs and dietary limitations are met while enhancing the overall care experience.

Outpatient & Wellness Programs:

Specialised outpatient services, including the Well Women Centre, Obesity, Diabetes Programs, offer both physical and virtual consultations for your convenience. During diet consultation, the expert dieticians will:

  • Review your medical and nutrition history
  • Assess your current eating patterns
  • Analyse your specific nutritional requirements
  • Develop a personalised medical nutrition therapy plan to help you achieve your health goals
  • Provide ongoing support and follow-up care to ensure lasting results

Support and Outreach Programs:

Dieticians actively extend nutrition care beyond the hospital, educating communities and empowering individuals to make informed dietary choices.

  • They organise interactive nutrition lectures and health camps for corporates, schools, and local communities.
  • As part of various support groups, they provide ongoing guidance to patients and their families, ensuring continuity for nutritional guidance.

The department adheres to National and International guidelines of Medical Nutrition therapy (MNT) guidelines, maintaining policies and protocols in line with NABH and JCI quality accreditation standards to deliver reliable, world-class care.

The Nutrition and Dietetics Department offers structured, hands-on dietetic internships focused on the Nutrition Care Process and Medical Nutrition Therapy. It also engages in pioneering research project aimed at advancing patient care, integrating evidence-based practice with innovation in healthcare.
