The Department of Hepatology deals with all kinds of liver disease evaluation and treatment ranging from, but not limited to, fatty liver, cirrhosis and liver transplantation (liver failure surgery) to end-stage liver disease care.

The Tower

Hepatology is the branch of medicine pertaining to the liver, gallbladder, biliary ducts, and pancreas, and the disorders thereof. The Department of Hepatology deals with all kinds of liver disease evaluation and treatment ranging from, but not limited to, fatty liver, cirrhosis, and end-stage liver disease care.

This unit of hepatology is comprehensively equipped to cater to the full spectrum of liver disorders ranging from asymptomatic abnormalities in the liver to complex cases of advanced liver disorders, including critical care Hepatology and Liver Transplantation. Led by Dr. Akash Shukla, our well-trained and experienced doctors are determined to provide adept clinical care to patients suffering from liver disorders. To address the needs of the patients, the hepatology department has outpatient and inpatient services, an intensive care unit, an endoscopy and a day-care facility. This department comprises the most comprehensive hepatology program, with all liver-related services provided under one roof.

The Tower

At the Department of Hepatology, we offer medical care specific to a wide variety of liver diseases. Management of complex cases needs input from multiple disciplinaries of medicine to effectively render a holistic care. Therefore, apart from the routine outpatient department, we also have special clinics to provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary and flawless medical opinions and care. Some of the special clinics are as follows:

  • Alcohol-induced liver disease clinic
  • Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) clinic
  • Hepatology clinic
  • Hepatocellular carcinoma clinic
  • Vascular liver disorders clinic (Budd Chiari Syndrome, extrahepatic portal vein obstruction (EHPVO), non-cirrhotic portal fibrosis (NCPF))
  • Rare liver disorders clinic (Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), autoimmune hepatitis, Wilson’s disease)
  • Pre-transplant information and counselling clinic
