Acne Scars

Overview

Acne scars are the result of inflammation of acne blemishes, leading to permanent textural changes in the skin.

  • Atrophic scars: These are sunken or “pit” like scars that occur when the skin does not regenerate tissue properly, resulting in a loss of collagen and tissue Ice pick, boxcar, and rolling scars.
  • Hypertrophic scars: These are raised scars, wide and thickened, that form as a result of excessive collagen production where the skin is injured.
