Causes Prolonged use of corticosteroid medications or tumours that produce excess cortisol. Symptoms Weight gain, especially around the abdomen and face; high blood pressure; and mood changes. Diagnosis Blood, urine, and saliva tests to measure cortisol levels as well as imaging studies to identify the cause. Treatment Depends on causative factors and may include gradually reducing corticosteroid use, surgery to remove tumours, radiation therapy, or medications to control cortisol production.
