Cardiac Rehabilitation
Extensive 25 years of expertise in Preventive and Sports Cardiology and Sports Medicine
Dr. Aashish Contractor is a Consultant at the Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre, and serves as the Director of the Centre for Rehabilitation Medicine and Sports Medicine.
Previously, he has been the Head of the Department of Preventive Cardiology and Rehabilitation at the Asian Heart Institute since its inception in 2002 until June 2014. Widely regarded as the Pioneer of cardiac rehabilitation and sports cardiology in India, and set up the first telemetry monitored centre in the country in Mumbai in 2001.
Dr. Contractor and his team look after the sports medicine needs of more than a hundred athletes, representing India at International competitions.
On the academic front, Dr. Contractor has worked and trained in the United States under leading experts in his field. He completed his medical training at the T. N. Medical College, Mumbai and post-graduate training at the University of Virginia, USA.
Dr. Contractor has been the Vice-Chairman of the International Council of Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation, which includes 45 countries around the world. He has served as the Certification Director of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) in India since November 2003. He was the Medical Director for the Tata Mumbai Marathon from 2004 to 2014, as well as several international sporting events in India. He is an avid sportsman, having participated in several marathons and a non-stop Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai cycle ride (329 km) and helped raise 1.1 crore rupees for children with cancer in April 2012.
Dr. Contractor has authored a book, ‘The Heart Truth’, on heart disease prevention and rehabilitation. He has authored several International scientific publications and textbooks as well as journals.
