About Us:

Dr. Shaila Khubchandani is a Consultant Surgical Pathologist and Electron Microscopist at the Department of Laboratory Medicine, Sir H.N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre.

Dr. Khubchandani completed M.B.B.S. from the prestigious Seth G.S. Medical College and K.E.M. Hospital, Mumbai in 1978. She was awarded the V.R. Khanolkar Prize for First Rank in Pathology during her second year of M.B.B.S. Further, she pursued M.D. (Pathology) at the same institution, where she received the P.V. Gharpure Prize and Gold Medal (Bombay University) for being the valedictorian. She also won R.G. Dhaygude Prize for the Best Autopsy Study. She trained in Nephropathology under Dr. B. Colvin at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, U.S.A.

Dr. Khubchandani has served as Lecturer and Reader at Seth G.S. Medical College and K.E.M. Hospital, where she taught undergraduate and postgraduate M.D. students and conducted the undergraduate examinations. She has guided many D.N.B. (Pathology) students and has been mentoring D.N.B. nephrology postgraduate students for the past three decades, many of whom are renowned specialists in India and worldwide.

Dr. Khubchandani has been practicing since 1989, with special interest in nephropathology and electron microscopy. She has performed over 26,000 renal biopsies using all modalities, including light microscopy, immunofluorescence,s and electron microscopy.

She has co-authored a book titled “Interpretation of Renal Biopsies,” published by the Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre; following a research project titled ‘Study and follow up of 5336 renal biopsies.’

She is a member of various national and international medical organisations, and has authored multiple papers and received various orations. Dr. Khubchandani is involved in teaching Nephropathology through conferences and seminars.
