About Us:

Dr Sujal Shah is a consultant in the ophthalmology department at Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre.

After completing his MBBS degree, Dr Shah finished his DO degree at Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai, India, and completed a DNB course in ophthalmology. Dr Shah then pursued a fellowship in refractive surgery techniques at the Doheny Eye Institute of USC, Los Angeles, USA; Cleveland Clinic Foundation; and UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute, Los Angeles, USA.

Dr Shah has a rich 28-year experience in ophthalmology. In addition to his role at our hospital, he serves as a consulting ophthalmologist at Samyak Drishti in Mumbai. Previously, he held consultancy positions at various institutions, including Lilavati Hospital & Research Centre, Bhatia General Hospital, Conwest Jain Clinic, Sir H. N. Hospital & Research Centre, Surya Eye Tech Super Speciality Eye Hospital, Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital, and Divyadrashti Eye Hospital. He started the Roshni Eye Bank and Tissue Processing Centre at Lilavati Hospital and was in charge of the eye banks at Conwest Jain Clinic and Bhatia General Hospital. He was also on the advisory board of the Eye Bank Co-Ordination & Research Centre, Mumbai.

Dr Shah, who specialises in cataract, and refractive surgery, possesses vast surgical expertise in various procedures, including

  • Cataract surgery, refractive cataract surgery using premium lenses (microincision cataract surgery [MICS] and aspheric, toric, multifocal, multifocal toric, EDOF, trifocal, and trifocal toric intraocular lens [IOL] implantation) for spectacle free vision after cataract surgery
  • Complete range of refractive surgeries (basic LASIK, custom LASIK, wavefront-guided LASIK, topoguided LASIK, Sub-Bowman’s keratomileusis [SBK] LASIK, bladeless Femto-LASIK, the no-blade no-flap Smile procedure, Phakic IOL implantation, Refractive lens exchange, Bioptics surgery, Customized management of keratoconus with corneal collagen crosslinking, corneal collagen crosslinking with topography guided surface ablation, and Presbyond blended vision for reading glasses).
  • Dr Shah pioneered the commercial application of Smile in India and was the first to start using laser blended vision for presbyopia in India. He has also conducted clinical trials in India for advanced treatments using the MEL 80 excimer laser (Carl Zeiss, Germany).
  • He is an expert in Cataract & Refractive Surgery. He has a vast experience of treating thousands of patients with complex vision disorders and also the management of LASIK complications.

He has served on the editorial board of the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology and is a peer reviewer for esteemed publications, such as the Ophthalmology (the journal of the American Academy of Ophthalmology), American Journal of Ophthalmology, Journal of Refractive Surgery, and Journal of Clinical Ophthalmology & Research. He conducts training courses in LASIK, bladeless LASIK, and phakic IOL implantation for ophthalmologists and mentors doctoral thesis candidates.

He is a professional member of the Indian Medical Association, All India Ophthalmological Society, Maharashtra Ophthalmological Society, Bombay Ophthalmologists Association, American Academy Of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, International Society of Refractive Surgery, Castroviejo Cornea Society, Asia Pacific Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, Cornea Society of India, Indian Intraocular Implant and Refractive Society, the Association of Medical Consultants, and the Delhi Ophthalmological Society.
