About Us:

Dr. Sushil Kathar is a Senior Consultant in Critical Care Medicine at Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital.

In his professional career, Dr. Kathar has specialized in severe respiratory failure, ECMO, mechanical circulatory support, and complex cardiothoracic and heart-lung transplant intensive care. He has trained at prestigious centers in the UK, including St. George’s University Hospital, Bart’s Hospital Trust, Guy's and St. Thomas’, and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust, where he also participated in mobile ECMO retrieval services. His work involved managing peri-operative care for heart-lung transplant patients and those receiving mechanical circulatory support, as well as advancing his expertise in critical care echocardiography, including transesophageal echocardiography (TOE).

Dr. Kathar has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, focusing on topics like ECMO, bronchoalveolar lavage contamination, and cardiogenic shock management. Some of his notable publications include "Clinical impact of screening computed tomography in ECMO" (Ann Intensive Care, 2023), "ECPR therapy following prolonged low-flow state" (Intensive Care Unit, Harefield Hospital), and "Bronchoalveolar lavage contamination: A cause of false-positive galactomannan" (Lung India, 2017). He has also contributed to the book Puzzling Cases in Pulmonary Medicine, co-authoring the chapter "Man Who Fought in His Sleep (REM-Behavior Disorder)" with Dr. Z.F. Udwadia.

He is an active member of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM) and the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO). Additionally, Dr. Kathar has contributed to education and training, having served as the Educational Teaching Representative for the Association of Cardiothoracic Transplant Intensivists (ACTTI) in the UK.
